Yesterday the oddsnark staff attempted to live blog the committee hearing with Roger Clemens and Brian McNamee, but for some technical reasons it never got published. Here’s the transcript.

9:00 - has it started yet? im too hung over for this going back to bed

11:45 - Shit I overslept. Okay, well I guess I’ll turn on the TV and get this started.

11:50 - I’m bored, too many people talking and not saying anything. Someone else want to chime in? I’m going to play some Guitar Hero.

1:25 - Huh, looks like no one else has posted. Maybe we’ll do a recap after it’s over. Making a run to the c-store for a soda.

2:10 - Is it finally over? Well, thanks for reading our live blog of the Roger Clemens hearing.

Alright, maybe the blogosphere was better off without that waste of bandwidth, but here are a couple thoughts on the whole media circus that took place on Capitol Hill yesterday:

Brian McNamee looks and sounds like a little weasel.

Roger Clemens didn’t come off smelling like roses either.

I loved it when members of Congress would start their questions with a statement about how they think the whole hearing is a farce and a waste of time, but that didn’t stop them from mugging for the camera and asking questions anyway.

Christopher Shay of Connecticut calling McNamee a drug dealer was classic.

Henry Waxman gaveling Clemens for interrupting his closing remarks (”This is not your time to argue with me!”) was even better.

Someone committed perjury yesterday and the Justice Department is damn well going to find out who it was and send them to jail. I am so looking forward to that witch-hunt.

The Habs defender makes just $590,000 a year according to The Gazette, so you can see that he probably just needed some cash because he wanted to get something to eat. You can’t persecute a man who’s starvin, alone on the mean streets of Tampa far from home. If you want to blame anyone, blame Montreal owner George Gillette for not paying his players a decent, living wage.

Chalk up a victory for the little guy.

I mean just because Vick is spending the next 23 months in federal prison for running a dog fighting operation and can’t be on the field competing for the team that paid him all those millions, that doesn’t mean he has to give that money back. Once they hand over the check, it is gone, baby, gone. Or in the words of NFL Players Association general counsel Richard Berthelsen, “It’s an enforcement of something that we felt we negotiated in the 2006 extension of the collective bargaining agreement.”

See this is why we need to have unions, to protect people who like to gamble on dog fighting and who torture and kill dogs that don’t win their fights from being abused by The Man. Thank goodness the NFLPA worked hard for that “sentenced to federal prison for dog fighting” exemption in the CBA.

The National Geographic Channel announced the other day a new series to debut this summer called Dogtown will follow the efforts to rehabilitate 22 of the dogs saved from Mike Vick’s dog fighting operation.

The pit bulls were rescued from Vick’s property Virginia and sent to a facility in Utah called Best Friends Dogtown, an animal sanctuary that works to resocialize abused animals.

The Best Friends animal society is calling the pack of animals Vicktory Dogs, and you can read about their progress here. You can even sponsor one of the dogs to help get them back to good health and to find a new home.

With the NFL close to putting a difficult 2007 season behind it by putting on the biggest show of the year, I’m sure Roger Goodell was just hoping some mention of Mike Vick would surface this week.

From now on we shall address Seattle SuperSonics owner Clay Bennett as His Lord Highness Bennett, Duke of Sonicsville. It seems a fitting title for someone who apparently sees himself ruling over a small fiefdom with an iron fist.

According to the Sonics Blog from The Seattle Times (link stolen from CSTB), a fan names Sam had the nerve to disturb His Lord Highness while sitting in his box seat watching the Sonics play Sacramento.

Sam: Clay, what’s up? You’re a thief Clay!
Clay: shrugs, smirks and blows me a kiss (I swear to God this is no lie)
Sam: I’ve been a season ticket holder since age 10. Don’t steal my team!!!
Clay: makes a face of mock pity
Sam: Sell the Sonics!!!
Clay: walks to the back of the suite, never to reappear

How rude to hurl insults at someone above your station. The Duke of Sonicsville rightly had ruffian put out on his ear.

A few years ago, former big leaguer José Canseco wrote a book called Juiced all about steroid use in Major League Baseball. Everyone said he was full of it and said the book was total fiction. Fast forward a couple years and we get the Mitchell Report all about steroid use in Major League Baseball. Huh, how about that.

This year Jose has a new book set to be released called Vindicated, which I guess is supposed to be a big F.U. to everyone who doubted his word. Oh, and he names some more names. Unless, of course, you can come up with enough scratch to keep your name out of the book. At least that’s what Magglio Ordóñez says.

José Canseco, the former major league slugger and admitted steroid user who exposed other players in his 2005 best-selling book “Juiced,” offered to keep a Detroit Tigers outfielder “clear” in his next book if the player invested money in a film project Canseco was promoting, according to a person in baseball with knowledge of the situation.

Four people in baseball confirmed that referrals were made from Major League Baseball to the F.B.I. regarding Canseco’s actions relating to the six-time All-Star outfielder Magglio Ordóñez, who was not mentioned in Canseco’s earlier book or in any other report on performance-enhancing drugs in baseball. All four insisted on anonymity because they said they didn’t have authority to speak about the events.

Mark McGuire must be pissed he wasn’t made the same offer three years ago. I bet he would have paid.

The frigtards at Time Warner Cable must be creaming their pants today because someone out there has taken their side in the ongoing battle between the #2 cable operator and the big bad NFL. I bet David Hendricks of the San Antonio Express-News will be getting free basic service for the next year after performing journalistic felatio on Time Warner, writing the other day that us fans should be thanking the cable company for holding the line against the NFL Network.

The NFL Network still is trying to use its eight regular season games this season to pressure Time Warner. Time Warner is fighting back on behalf of customers who do not want to subsidize a network they don’t want to see.

Well boo freakin’ ya! Talk about subsidizing channels we don;t want to see, what about SoapNet, The Golf Channel, the Game Show Network, Hallmark and the ION Network? No human being that breathes, eats and shits is watching those channels but they’re all included in the monthly cable bill, ass hat.

Do I watch the Oxygen Network? No. The Disney Channel? As if. Sci-Fi Channel? I might be a blogger but I’m no nerd. We all pay for channels we don’t watch, but most of us — a bunch of us anyway — would watch the NFL Network; everyone else can just suck it up and keep watching the Style channel.
