Maria Sharapova Is Hot

Yes, I know that tennis star Maris Sharapova is an attractive young woman, but I’m saying she was hot today. It was 93 degrees in Melbourne for the Australian Open finals. That’s mighty warm even if you aren’t running side to side on a tennis court smashing a little ball over a net.

And speaking of her game, Sharapova was pretty much on fire. Straight sets 7-5, 6-3 over Ana Ivanovic. Pretty good, no?

Oh, and did I mention she’s kinda attractive?

Yeah, Maria Sharapova is hot.

Aussie tennis fans are going to get an eyeful this weekend when Maria Sharapova faces Ana Ivanovic in the final match of the Australian Open. They might just be the two sexiest women in tennis and maybe in all of sports. I’m really not sure who to root for on Saturday, sexy tennis babe on the beach:

Back during the Cold War, the West feared an invasion or nuclear annihilation from Russia and Eastern Europe. Instead they waited for thirty years and then took over women’s tennis.

Venus Williams was knocked out of the Australian Open today by fourth-seed Ana Ivanovic in straight sets 7-6, 6-4, setting up a semi-finals match against Daniela Hantuchova. In the other bracket, Jelena Jankovic defeated Serena Williams to face Maria Sharapova.

Of course in today’s post-Cold War world we no longer fear world domination by Eastern Europe. In fact we might even welcome a little domination from the likes of Sharapova.

Rate The Mate: James Blake and Heather Mitts

Just a couple days ago we brought you the news of how soccer star Heather Mitts managed to raise the profile of her native Cincinnati by being the Queen City’s most eligible bachelorette (at least in the eyes of Forbes magazine), but now comes word that maybe the US women’s team star isn’t so eligible after all.

According to the New York Metro sportsblog, Mitts has been getting hot and heavy with tennis ace James Blake. Apparently she was on hand at the Western & Southern Financial Group Masters in Cincy last week where Blake lost in the final to Roger Federer. But seeing her beau loose a game ain’t no thing to Mitts, having dated A.J. Feeley.

As for Blake, the 6th ranked player in the world is still trying to get over the hump and win a major tourney. But considering he’s dating Mitts:

yeah I don’t feel too badly for him.

Federer breaks when needed

Wimbeldon is officially complete. Roger Federer was able to take the match against the crafty left-hander Raphael Nadal… also known as the Federer Krytonite. Nadal has beaten Federer 5 out of the last 13 matches… But today Federer was the better man, barely.

Federer was pushed to 5 sets and was only able to break Nadal once (the very first set) in the first 4 sets. But in the final set was able to break Nadal twice and take the victory. He’s now tied with Bjorn Borg for the most wins in a row at Wimbeldon. What have you won 5 times in a row against the best players in the world?

Men’s Draw - Big names are still in it. Federer, Nadal - 1,2 are still in the hunt for the crown….. Federer (who I’d put the money on) plays Gasquet in the semi’s. Nadal plays someone else and we’ll see a rematch of last year’s final… Meaning we shouldn’t have bothered to watch both the French Open and wimbledon.

Does anyone else have problems spelling wimbledon? Maybe it’s just me.

Ladies Draw - Henin out, Sharapova out, Mauresmo out, S. Williams out. The only one left is V. Williams…. but really the big shame is thatTatiana Golovin and her red undies are out.

Federer FINALLY wins!

I don’t know how I missed this but just last week Roger Federer FINALLY won. And by WON I mean, won the tournament. He’d gone 4 whole tournaments without winning a tournament.

The interesting part of this story is that he actually beat Nadal, on clay. Yes, on clay. So, Federer beat Nadal on clay for a tournament victory. This is Federer’s first win on clay against Nadal AND Nadal’s first loss in like 90+ games.
The French Open starts on Monday (on clay) so it should be a clayful next few weeks.

Federer Can’t Solve Nadal

Federer lost yet again to Rafael Nadal on clay. Apparently Federer is the best player in the world, except on clay. That’s where Rafael Nadal is the best.
Is Federer really this bad at Tennis? It seems that he’s lost more this year then all of last year. But again, apparently, clay is a different game. I say apparently because how many people from North America have really played on clay? Seriously? Have you ever played on clay? or even Grass for that matter? What sort of sport is this that they play on grass and clay? Either way Federer has never beaten Nadal on clay.
So, if someone asks you who the best player in the world is maybe you should say Feder-dal.

Federer is hating life . . . and Canas

Apparently tennis superstar Roger Federer has found the New England Patriots to his pre-Super Bowl winning Indianapolis Colts. The relatively unknown and previously banned Guillermo Canas beat Federer for a second time in as many matches, besting the #1 player 7-6, 2-6, 7-6 at the Sony Ericsson Open in Florida.

The Argentinian player was quoted as saying afterwards, “Really, I don’t know what is my secret.” I don’t know, maybe that 15-month suspension for doping gave you time to work on that backhand?

Seriously, though, congrats to Canas for his big victory, but we have to ask, what is wrong with Federer? So you had a 41-match winning streak broken a couple weeks ago, you can’t let this guy get into your head that quickly. Maybe you should take a 15-month long break from tennis to get your mojo back.
