New GoDaddy Girl: Amanda Beard

Move over Danica Patrick and whoever your name is with the huge fake boobs: It looks like GoDaddy.com has a new celebrity spokesmodel and it just might be swimmer Amanda Beard.

According to founder and CEO Bob Parsons: “Next week at a formal news conference I will announce our newest celebrity Go Daddy Girl! Here are a few hints (all of which are why I like this new Go Daddy Girl): she rides a Ducati motorcycle and is a world class athlete. She’s definitely GoDaddyEsque (i.e. edgy, fun and slightly inappropriate) and has been on the cover of Playboy magazine. Finally she’s an accomplished businesswoman who looks red hot when she’s wet.”

Can’t wait for the new ads.

There’s no bigger turnoff than a sexy girl who knows — and who lets you know that she knows — that she’s sexy. On the flip side, there’s nothing sexier than a good looking girl who doesn’t realize how smoking hot she really is. So the news that Olympic swimmer Amanda Beard sees herself as the “biggest dork” and “a super-klutz” just raised her sex quotient about two fold in these parts.

The admission comes in an interview with Jim Moore from the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, during which she also defended her recent pictorial in Playboy. “It’s just my boobs and my butt. I had a lot of creative control.”

Boobs and butts? Can someone please get this girl some more creative control?

Amanda Beard Is Rich And Still Smoldering Hot

Training to be an Olympic swimmer sure doesn’t pay the bills (a lot like blogging, no?), but being a smoking hot medlaist does afford some opportunities to make a little coin.

According an article in Smart Money, Amanda Beard is working towards building a $100 million business empire over the next three years, and she’s off to a pretty good start. In addition to speaking engagements, sponsorships from Red Bull and Penta Water, and licensing her name and image for all manner of products, she has a $1 million contract to model swimsuits in print ads for Spedo. Sweet gig.

Then of course there was the cover and spread in Playboy magazine. (See NSFW pics here.) She won’t say how much that brought in, but the people at Smart Money are guessing it was at least $1 million. Oh, and she’s signed on to do beer commercials. I’m guessing it’ll be for something light or otherwise undrinkable, but I’m sure we’ll all enjoy the ads a plenty.

I’m not a regular reader of the LA Daily News but I’ll hazard a guess that it’s motto is “All the news that’s obvious to print.”

Jill Painter today pens a column in defense of smoking hot athletes such as Amanda Beard, Maria Sharapova, and Natalie Gulbis, saying, “There’s not a reason in the world to feel guilty about looking at attractive athletes and admiring their beauty and fitness in addition to their sports accomplishments.”

Well thanks for granting us that permission, Ms. Painter. I look forward to your future columns telling us it’s okay to think puppies and kitties are cute, that it’s fine to enjoy good food, and that we should not feel ashamed to admit that we really like watching football all weekend long.

Thank goodness for the LA Daily News and Amanda Beard.

Update: This is what I get for not being terribly observant of my surroundings. Apparently Ms. Painter’s column is part of point-counter point thing with fellow columnist Tom Hoffarth, who writes that ~~objectifying attractive athletes~~ enjoying fine art is wrong. What killjoy! Ms. Painter, ignore the attempt at humor above because we are behind you all the way in your campaign to spread ~~racy pictorials~~ fine art throughout the land.

Michael Phelps Is A Really Good Swimmer and Amanda Beard is Hot

Sometimes our sports bias fails us here at oddsnark, despite big news in various corners of the sports world.

By all reports, Michael Phelps is, umm, a really good swimmer and breaking all sorts of world records. That’s cool. Good for him. But my knowledge of swimming wouldn’t fill up a tenth of a Speedo, so that’s about all your getting on the subject.

Oh, wait. Amanda Beard swims, doesn’t she? See, I know two things about swimming.

If Holding Your Breath Was An Olympic Sport, David Blaine Would Miss The Podium

Okay, maybe “Street Magic” and stunts aren’t technically sports, but watching a guy nearly drown himself in the middle of the Lincoln Center Plaza is probably more entertaining than watching Bolton beat Birmingham 1-0, so we’re counting it. Anyway, magicien de rue David Blaine failed last night in his attempt to set a record for holding his breath. The stunt, in case you’ve been hiding under a rock or never watch Lost and missed the ads on ABC, involved encasing the Great Artist of Mystifying Endurance and Escapes inside a plastic globe filled with water placed in the middle of Manhattan for thousands of gawkers to gawk at. He remained submerged for 177 hours before removing his breathing tubes and attempted to break the record of eight minutes and 58 seconds, but Blaine lasted just over seven minutes before rescue divers saved him. So, for those of you keeping track at home, Blaine’s accomplishments include 35 hours balanced atop a 100-foot pole, 61 hours frozen in a block of ice, 44 days fasting inside a clear plastic box in London, and now 177 hours as Aquaman. That’s gotta qualify him for admission to the Cry for Attention Hall of Fame, doesn’t it?

Amanda Beard: Poolie & Hottie

If they gave Olympic Gold for being smoking hot, Amanda Beard would win every time. As it, though, the Olympic committee only hands out medals for winning actual events, but even there Ms. Beard hasn’t done too shabbily. She won gold and silver medals in 1996, took home the bronze in 2000, and in 2004 won two silver medals and her first individual gold medal in the 200m breaststroke. The 24-year old swimmer lives in Tuscon, Arizona, and is reported to be dating NASCAR driver Carl Edwards.
