Exactly one month till NHL playoffs

With exactly one month to the NHL playoffs I thought it’d be nice to make a prediction of who will make and will not make the playoffs. Today, I’ll start with the Western Conference mainly because it’s a way easier…

The west has some crazy competition going on and for the past 2 months or so when one team wins or a team loses they can go from 3rd to 8th. This is all due to the structure of the conference and the whole Northwestern Division.

Anyway, here’s my list.

Trading deadline busy

Unlike the NBA’s trading deadline the NHL’s trading deadline was busy with a capital B. As usual teams are trading players who are in the last year of a contract. While teams are picking these players up usually for a draft pick, or two, or in Keith Tkachuk’s case umm, lots of draft picks.

Let’s summarize where the significant players went and what for. By significant players I mean players that we’ve all heard of. If I did every player that got traded you wouldn’t read this post as I wouldn’t type it.

Trading deadline closing in

The NHL trade deadline is tomorrow afternoon, Feb 27th. Stay tuned to see who the winners and losers are from each and every trade. Possible people on the trading block are

Todd Bertuzzi - Big power forward with great hands. But with a back more fragile then my 90 year-old gramma

Bill Guerin - Once considered a great forward. Now considered a veteran forward. May give a team the experience it needs

Bryan Berard - Skilled defensemen who can move the puck. Hasn’t been the same since taking a stick to the eye, but who really is the same after taking a stick to the eye?

The Florida Panthers - the team itself isn’t going to be traded. But the players sure might. Keep on eye out here.

Long live the hype

As is usually the case when a brawl ensued in the last game. The next game between the two hockey teams rarely lives up to the hype. Although, this game had lots of hitting and goal scoring what everyone came to watch only happened once when McGratton fought Peters. Either way it makes an interesting preview of a possible playoff match-up!
In other news around the NHL.

Keith Tkachuk was traded to the Atlanta Thrashers. Tkachuk was traded for a 1st, 2nd & 3rd round draft pick and a prospect. A whole lot to give up for a player that has yet to reach is peak from prior to the NHL lockout. Remember this is the guy that failed the physical at training camp two years ago. Lots to give up for a rental player.
