Anyone here ever heard of John Harbaugh? No, I didn’t think so. Anyone out there care much about the Baltimore Ravens? Yeah, me neither. Anyone think things will be any different in Baltimore now that the Ravens have hired John Harbaugh as head coach? Didn’t think so.

When Will Someone Please Fire Brian Billick?

It’s one thing to be out-coached by the opposing side, but Brian Billick proved once again the master of out-coaching himself. From The Sun Chronicle report of the Monday night showdown between the Ravens and the undefeated Pats:

Trailing 24-20 and taking over at their own 27 with 3:30 left, the Patriots had driven down to the Baltimore 30 and were facing a fourth-and-1 situation when Tom Brady appeared to be stuffed by Baltimore’s Bart Scott for a loss on a keeper. But a split-second before the play went off, Billick had called timeout from the sideline, negating the loss.

Yes, overmatched Baltimore, all but left for dead by the national sports pundits, had a chance to win the biggest upset of the year only to be thwarted by their own head coach. After gaining the first down following the ill-advised timeout, the Pats of course marched down the field — helped by a questionable interference call in the end zone (with the troll-like Bob Kraft gazing down from his box) — and scored a touchdown for the lead and the win.

And afterwards, did Billick accept some blame for the call that basically killed Baltimore’s chances for victory?

“We called the timeout. If he had gotten the first (down), it would have been (reporters) screaming, ‘Why didn’t you call the timeout?’ Let’s make sure we don’t have a revisionist history,” said Ravens’ coach Brian Billick in a drastically curtailed post-game interview.

Brian Billick Should Be Fired

The game is on the line, your team is inside the five-yard line and needing a touchdown, what is your play selection? Two runs and two passes, the last of which results in a bullshit offensive pass interference call that puts your team back at the 10-yard line. Then, you get a second chance inside the five thanks to a makeup call, and what is your play selection? One run and two passes, the second of which results in an interception that ends the game.

And you call yourself an offensive guru?

Granted, the pass on fourth-and-one from Kyle Boller to Todd Heap was complete and would have been a touchdown had the referee not made that asinine interference call (how did you not see Dexter Jackson with a handful of Heap’s jersey?) but why was Brian Billick even going to the air in the first place when the Bengals had been so good at covering receivers and blitzing. It should have been four downs, four runs, touchdown Ravens.

Brian Billick is a crap coach and should be fired.

Well that was a complete waste of three hours of my life. Jesus Christ. I think Kenny Chesney is going to make you sleep in the guest house tonight, Peyton, as that was a pretty god-awful display.

Kudos to the Baltimore not-an-offense. You managed to make the Colts D look good. And that, my friends, is pretty damn hard to accomplish.
