* Entered MLB in 1977

* First post-season appearance in 1985

* Won back-to-back World Series titles in 1992 and 1993

* The only team in the American League that isn’t in America

Now that the Expos have moved to Washington, DC, and considering the Jays last finished with a winning record in 2003, I think America’s Favorite Pastime is safe from foreign interlopers for a while.

One Bedeviled Team: Tampa Bay Devil Rays

If you’ve ever wondered whether or not there is a sports Hell, just travel to Tropicana Field in Tampa, Florida. The Devil Rays were started in 1998, and in the eight years since the team has yet to post a winning record. Rays fans were treated to a 70 win season a couple years ago, and I’m sure there were big celebrations. It also doesn’t help that they’re in a division with the Yanks and the Sawx.

Dreaming In Pinstripes: New York Yankees

Thinking of jumping on the Yankees bandwagon this year? (Why not, everyone else is or has.) Here’s some important facts for every new Yanks fan to know:

* The team was started in 1903 and was originally known as the Highlanders.

* New York has won 39 AL pennants and 26 World Series Championships.

* Because of the immense size of the Yankees’ payroll, Owner George Steinbrenner paid $34 million into MLB’s luxury tax system last year, and $25 million the year before that.

By the way, in case you’re keeping track, the last time the Yanks made it to the World Series was 2003 when they lost to the Marlins.

Curse-less Fans Still Swear By They Team: Boston Red Sox

You have to hand it to those Boston fans; they stuck by their BoSox for seventy years waiting for that damn curse to be broken. Now, of course, they expect their team to win, or at least beat those damn Yankees who stole away Johnny D. Red Sox Nation, we salute you.

So you think you’re team is bad? How about those Orioles fans, whose team hasn’t posted a winning season since 1997, the year they lost to the Indians in the AL Championship Series. Plus, there was that whole Palmeiro-on-steroids deal last year. But Baltimore plays in one Hell of a nice ballpark, Tom Clancey is one of the owners, and when things get really bad, Orioles fans can always dig out their Cal Ripken baseball cards.

Not to toot our own horn or anything, but the Snark surpassed the 500-post milestone recently so excuse us for a little bit of back slapping and high-fiving. And what have we learned in 500+ posts? Joe Buck is a complete tool, Tom Delay is a slimy tool, and Kobe Bryant is a tool that goes by the name Mamba. The past few months have brought us the Topcats, The Beast from the East, and Sophie Sandolo, not to mention five-time Ititarod champion Rick Swenson. We’ve peeked into the diary of John Madden and plumbed the crazy of Ron Artest, and come to the conclusion that we really, really fucking hate Tim McGraw. We’ve stayed up late watching exciting pennant games and seen some great bowl games, but we never, ever want to see this picture of Carrot Top again. So thanks to everyone for reading, and thanks to all the athletes, coaches, and annoying-as-shit announcers without whom we’d have nothing to bitch about. Hoozah!
