Barrett and Valuev. David and Goliath? Well, sort of, except in this matchup the little Israelite is 6′3″, 230 lb. American Monte “Two Gunz” Barrett, and and the Philistine is 7′ 240 lb. Russian Nikolay “Beast From the East” Valuev.
oddsnark readers should be familiar with Valuev 44-0 (32), as we’ve diligently reported on his size, his size, and his size.
Monte Barrett 31-4 (17) wouldn’t make most people’s list of the 20 top heavyweights, and we’re talking about a division that is currently fairly weak at the top, and drops like a rock after 10 or so. That said he’s not a complete bum. He’s racked up some respectable wins against…well, other guys you wouldn’t put in the top 20.
If you want to see good boxing, a better bet on Saturday night would be the rubber match between Diego “Chico” Corrales 40-3 (33) and Joel “El Cepillo” Casamayor 33-3-1 (21) The bout will be Chico’s first since being knocked out by Jose Luis Castillo almost a year ago in a controversial rematch. Saturday’s fight against Casamayor will be a rubber match. The Cuban TKO’d Corrales in 2003, then lost a split decision in 2004.
Apparently Intertops doesn’t think gunz are as effective as slingz against a giant. At last look they had Barrett +480. They like Chico to the tune of -250.
