Skiier Bode Miller, America’s favorite whipping boy of the 2006 Olympics in Torino, is having a fantastic season. He just won his fifth World Cup event by taking first in the Chamonix super-combined this weekend and now has a strong hold on the season title race with 310 points.
What is it with Bode that he competes like a champion in non-Olympic years, but shine the spotlight of the Winter Games on him and he falls to pieces?
He’ll likely come into the 2010 Vancouver games a heavy favorite for gold medals but then develop that bad playboy attitude once again, spending his days doing interviews about how he’s there competing for himself and not his country while spending his nights out on the town.
For now, though, he’s on top of the world so fans had better enjoy it while it lasts.
