Let me start by saying everything I’m about to write could turn out to be flat wrong and completely moot because it is based on the scoop reporting of ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, and in the past Mort been about as spot on as the Miami Heat has been winning this season.
That said, the WWL is reporting that noted sweatsuit model and Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis is casting an eye at the coaching carousel to replace Lane Kiffin. Let me repeat that: Al Davis is looking to fire Lane Kiffin after one season because he wants to hire Dennis Green.
Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis has been pushing for coach Lane Kiffin to resign and is considering Dennis Green as a potential replacement, sources close to Kiffin and the team said.
Davis has gone so far as to draft a letter of resignation for Kiffin to sign, a source said. Kiffin has refused to do so but has dared Davis to fire him instead. The letter, the source said, was sent to Kiffin two weeks ago.
Kiffin, who was 4-12 in his first season as coach, has two years remaining on his contract at an estimated $2 million per year.
Raider Nation must be about ready to mutiny.
Al Davis has fired not one, not two, but three head coaches in the six seasons since Jon Gruden left Northern California for the warmer bay in Tampa. And now he wants to add a fourth name to that list. I believe before he is through, Al Davis will have hired and fired every last coaching candidate in the league, and unfortunately for those fans the Raiders will still suck.
