The Pro Bowl: Where’s The Reward?

So as we all know the Pro Bowl balloting results came in earlier this week and lots of deserving fellows were selected to the NFL all-star teams. A lot of other deserving fellows were not. But really, what kind of reward is this for a job well done? “You’ve had a terrific year and made it through 16 grueling games plus the playoffs, so now we’d like you to go play one more.” It’s like telling a stable boy to shovel out one more stall in recognition of the fine job he’s doing.

Really, why not just give these guys a couple tickets to Hawaii and let them relax without the need to play in one more meaningless game? It’s not like anyone watches or anything, why would you? They have nothing to play for and it shows; heck, half the guys selected won’t even show up because they don’t want to get hurt playing in this game.

If FOX really needs something to show on television the week after the Super Bowl, maybe they could organize a Madden NFL video game tournament played on the Jumbotron at Aloha Stadium. Or maybe a girlfriend dance-off between Chris Cooley’s hot fiancee Christy Oglevee and Tony Romo’s blonde of the day Jessica Simpson. Now that could sell some tickets.
