Will The Dolphins Ever Win A Game?

There are seven weeks of the NFL regular season remaining, just seven games games remain, and so it’s time to put the question to Miami: Can you actually win a game? Any game?

The schedule does not look pretty. The next two weeks, the Dolphins travel to Philadelphia and then to Pittsburgh. There is a road trip to Buffalo in Week 14 and another trip to New England in Week 16. At home the Fins play the Ravens and the Bengals, but I’m not at all sure Miami has what it takes to beat even those sad sack teams.

Now we’ve kicked the Fins around here a bit, but seriously, do we want a team in this day and age to go 0-16? Since the league went to a 16-game season in 1988, no team has ever done it. The last time a team failed to win a game in a regular season was in 1976 when the expansion Buccaneers went 0-14, and the only time after that was during the strike-shortened 1982 season when the Baltimore Colts finished 0-8-1.

But there is a ray of hope.

In Week 13, the Dolphins play host to the only slightly better New Yawk Jets. I only hope the networks hype this game as much as they did the Colts vs. Patriots because this could be a real doozie. Imagine, the 0-11 Dolphins against the 1-10 Jets, playing a game that could very well decide the worst team in football. NBC should get this one on the flex schedule because I bet the entire nation would tune in.

If the Dolphins can’t win that one at home, then game over. Roger Goodell should be on hand to award the #1 draft pick to Miami right afterwards. But if by some miracle the Dolphins can pull off the upset, then we could have a three-way tie at the bottom of the league with Miami, New York, and St. Louis. In which case I would advocate a round robin playoff tournament to start right after the Pro Bowl.

We’re counting on you Miami.
