Strike? Woo hoo! Well, it looks like no top 25 college football preview this week, kids, cause we’re all on strike. Stick it to the man!
Oh, it’s only the Writers’ Guild of America members who are on strike. Damn, there go my vacation plans. Come on blognation, we gotta gets ourselves unionized. Bloggers unite!
Seriously, with the writers out the networks are going to subject us to reruns and then when they run out of those they have game shows galore to put on. What kind of crap it that? If I could make a small suggestion: more sports. Couldn’t ABC negotiate a short term deal with the NBA to show national primetime games? NBC could do the same thing with hockey. FOX could show, oh I don’t know, extreme sports or something. And CBS, well it doesn’t matter what the hell CBS shows because old people will watch anything on that network; that’s why they’re number one all the damn time.
At least this Saturday we don’t have to worry about no stinking writers’ strike getting in the way of college football.
Illinois at #1 Ohio State - You could take OSU’s basketball loss to Findlay the other night as an omen of ill, or you can think it will rally the football team to whip the Illini. I think the obligatory Ron Zook water skiing picture is the worst omen of them all. (3:30pm)
Louisiana Tech at #2 LSU - Nice time for a second bye week for the Tigers. (8:00pm)
#4 Kansas at Oklahoma State - The undefeated Jayhawks are finally getting some love for their undefeated ways. No hugs for Okie State, though, if they blow another big lead. (8:00pm)
Baylor at #5 Oklahoma - Sooners quarterback Sam Bradford is just five TD passes from an NCAA record for a freshman. With a lame duck coach, the Bears of Baylor could provide the means. (6:30pm)
Texas A&M at #6 Missouri - Dennis Franchione and A&M can keep denying it, but the end is obviously near, though obviously not until the Aggies get whipped in Columbus. (12:40pm)
#8 Boston College at Maryland - Having their national title hopes dashed and Matt Ryan out of the Heisman hunt just makes BC fans want to puke. (8:00pm)
#9 Arizona State at UCLA - Sounds like the Bruins will be looking for a new head coach soon. Maybe Bill Callahan would like giving California another try. (3:30pm)
#18 Auburn at #10 Georgia - This might be the most entertaining game of the afternoon. At least more fun than watching Rocky III. (3:30pm)
Florida State at #11 Virginia Tech - After they upset BC last week, who knows the Seminoles might do it again. (3:30pm)
#12 Michigan at Wisconsin - An upset over the Wolverines might be nice, but for some Badger fans it still won’t save a lost season. (noon)
#13 Connecticut at Cincinnati - I still have to ask, if it’s not a bear and it’s not a cat, what the hell is it? (3:30pm)
Texas Tech at #14 Texas - When Longhorn fans start pulling out mathematical properties to prove an opponent is inferior, you know they’re ready to throw down. (3:30pm)
#15 Florida at South Carolina - When your hopes for a national title repeat have gone south, I guess then you turn to Steve Spurrier conspiracy theories. (7:45pm)
Fresno State at #16 Hawaii - Boise State and three other games stand in the way of the Rainbows making at-large BCS bowl berth.
#17 USC at California - Screw SC and go Cal. (8:00pm)
#19 Virginia at Miami - Seeing the U play it’s last game at the Orange Bowl might be the only reason to watch. (7:15pm)
#20 Boise State at Utah State - Just a couple weeks until Boise St. has a shot an ending Hawaii’s BCS hopes. (3:00pm)
Wake Forest at #21 Clemson - The Clemson Tigers still have a shot at the ACC title game and the fans are chomping at the bit thinking about playing BC at home next week. (noon)
#22 Alabama at Mississippi State - Finding comfort and wisdom in the cover art of Hank Williams Jr. albums; I love the SEC. (12:30pm)
#23 Penn State at Temple - One would not think that the Owls would strike fear into the hearts of Nittany Lions fans, but some are questioning the long-term arrangement between PSU and Temple. (noon)
Arkansas at #24 Tennessee - The Vols have an outside chance of making it to the SEC title game; Darren McFadden has a chance to rush for a zillion yards again. Who will prevail? (12:30pm)
#25 Kentucky at Vanderbilt - The Wildcats loss to Gardner-Webb has shaken Kentucky to the core.
