From the news of the weird comes the story of young man in North Dakota that lost a chance to win $1,000 in a text messaging contest. According to the AP, 30-year-old Kevin Taylor came in second in a text messaging contest at the North Dakota state fair because he forgot the final exclamation mark in the phrase “I hope I win the grand prize of $1,000 so I can buy a new phone. Whoo!” Beth Brevik walked away with the grand prize.
Okay, so what is going on that we have contests now to see who is the fastest texter? Is this destined to become some kind of Olympic sport soon? Maybe Mark Cuban and his billionaire buddies should look into starting a text messaging league rather than a football league to compete with the NFL. ESPN could start ESPNtxt to cover all the texting action.
Someone wake me when the football season starts.
