Thank the gods, the Beast from the East is back in the news and ready to fight again. As an added bonus, he won’t be punching out little old men.
Nikolai Valuev has agreed to defend his WBA heavyweight title in a match against American Jameel McCline to be held in Basel, Switzerland. With the 6-6 McCline weighing in at 270 pounds and the hulking seven foot Valuev tipping the scales at 330 pounds, promoters are saying the fight could set a world record for combined weights in a title fight. Seriously, we’re talking Godzilla vs. King Kong here.
Valuev is looking to extend his 45-0 record on the way to matching Rocky Marciano’s best ever 49-0 record. McCline is looking to get back into the heavyweight picture after losing to Wladimir Klitschko in 2002. Titles, records, and unnaturally huge men bashing each other in the face: What more could you ask for?
Pay-per-view rights to this freak show have already been sold in more than 60 countries, though not yet the US.
