It’s never too early to start thinking about dog sleds

The holidays are over, college football is done, and the NFL playoffs are in full swing. That can only mean one thing: The Iditarod is just around the corner!

That’s right, boys and girls, The Last Great Race is in full-on preparation mode with 96 mushers already signed on to brave the elements and attempt to cross 1,100 miles of frozen, Alaskan wilderness. The race starts March 3, and you know that your faithful oddsnarkian correspondents will be posting updates here with breathless excitement all throughout the event.

But if you’re not content to just sit back and read race updates or watch for news on TV, maybe you’d like to get in on the action. The trail committee is auctioning off rides on dog sleds now through January 19. Opening bids start at $50. Fifty bucks to ride a sled in the freezing cold? What a bargain.
