You might have missed it in all the college football hoopla today, but the Montreal Alouettes won the East Division title in the CFL. Hooray! Or maybe I should say, Le Hooray! Anyway, the Als beat the Toronto Argonauts 24-20 today, winning the division championship on a tie breaker.
Securing the home field advantage for the Eastern finals is quite a turnaround for the Alouettes, who won their first seven games of the season before losing six in a row. Legendary head coach Don Matthews resigned from the team for “health reasons” in the midst of the slump and general manager Jim Popp had to take over the team.
As for the Argos, they’ll play the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the semi-finals next week. Oh, and if you happen to be in Winnipeg on November 18, you can check out the Alouettes cheerleaders in a “colourful, sexy and energetic Montreal-style show” at the Pyramid. Ooh la la!
