Phoenix Got Jobbed

Yesterday officials with Glendale, Arizona’s powerhouse hockey team, the Coyotes, were very excited to announce that they had sold the naming rights to their home arena to a local job recuitment company with the unfortunate name Jobing.com. Now the arena, where the hockey team plays their home games and from which the unfortunately-named Versus will probably broadcast some contests, has the most-unfortunate name Jobing.com Arena.

Perhaps though it is fitting, since during most home games the fans in Glendale, er, Phoenix are getting jobbed. They’re certainly going to feel hosed when they hear on the radio or TV, “Broadcasting live from Jobing.com Arena . . . ” What the hell is wrong with these people.

So now starts the debate; which name is worse: University of Phoenix Stadium or Jobing.com Arena? I would have to chose the later because even though the University of Phoenix sells mail-order degrees it at least almost sounds like it could be respectable institution. Jobing.com? No way.

Seriously, P.F. Chang’s is based in Phoenix, couldn’t someone have gotten them interested in a naming deal? Sure, it’s a cheesy restaurant chain, but Chang’s Arena or Chang’s Field would way better than what the fans in Arizona have to live with now.
