Minnesota’s weird. Along with Massachusetts, it’s reputed to be the hotbed of American hockey. But despite having high-quality hockey played at many organizational levels, the state has barely produced more NHL Hall of Famers than Hell’s Kitchen in Manhattan. On top of that, the state lost its original NHL team a decade ago to have it later replaced by the team with the worst nickname in the major sports – the Wild (Grrrr!). They’re selling out most every home game, but you wouldn’t know it by the product on the ice.
Now, the US Hockey Hall of Fame in Eveleth has shuttered its doors. Apparently the attraction was so poorly attended, that it’d basically have to charge almost $15 a head just to break even. Officials are mulling a move to Xcel Center (home of the Wild) or, predictably, the Mall of America, which will eventually house every point of interest north of the 43rd parallel, including Mount Rushmore, the Mitchell Corn Palace, and Wisconsin Dells.
Minnesotans need to get out of the house more.

An original oddsnark founding member, but has since fallen by the wayside.
