Rate The Mate: Matt Leinart and Paris Hilton

Steven Colbert is right, the press is destroying America, and that’s especially true of the sports press. Take the situation of former USC quarterback Matt Leinart. Can he do nothing right in the eyes of the national sports media? Everyone it seems is piling on poor Matt for staying in school instead of entering the draft last year, hence passing up a chance to be the #1 pick and henceforth falling to #10 in this year’s draft to be picked by the vaunted Arizona Cardinals. Forsooth! Fortune, fame, and power are not everything, people. We’re talking quality of life here, as in the quality of life you can have when said life involves absolutely no responsibilities except for taking one class at a school in Southern California and you can get tail about as easily as Jack Nicholson. It all sounds like petty jealousy to me.

And now we see that the press is pouncing all over this little tidbit: Matt is apparently dating Paris Hilton. Yes, she is an internationally renowned slut. Yes, she cashed in on the fact that she’s a slut and a dimwit with her own TV series on FOX. Yes, she has an Internet sex tape. Yes, she got paid by a hamburger joint to splash soapy water all over herself in a television ad. But this is love we’re talking about here, and you can’t criticize love. Unless you’re a terrorist. Hater Nation has the right idea, though, to look on the bright side: Paris is at least more attractive than Kurt Warner’s better half.
