Give it to Redick

People seem to be having a terrible time choosing between Duke’s J.J. Redick and Gonzaga’s Adam Morrison for the various player-of-the-year awards.

Now I don’t like Duke any more than anyone who doesn’t love Duke, which is to say I hate them, and Redick’s just one more Duke player that’s so good you can’t help but hate him if you don’t love Duke. That said, I think Redick should take all the POTY awards, because basketball is all he’s got.

Morrison, on the other hand, has clearly prepared himself for another career option. In a fair world that wouldn’t count against him, particularly since he’s probably just as good as Redick and will likely go on to have a stellar NBA career. But even if the whole basketball thing doesn’t work out, he’ll be just fine. Duke’s not the only school turning out smart student-athletes.
