Going To The Dogs

Snow DogsNow that the Olympics and everything else is out of the way, we can finally focus our attention on the biggest event of the year. That’s right, the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race is set to begin in just four days, when more than 100 dog teams will pull out of Anchorage with much fanfare and start their 1,100 mile trek across the frozen landscape of Alaska to reach Nome about nine or ten days later. Who will win and by how much? Who will be bringing up the rear and get this year’s Red Lantern Award? You can keep up with all the action at the official Iditarod site or, better yet, check back here for periodic updates from the oddsnark gang.

One note though, if you were planning on watching the race on TV you’ll be sorely disappointed. Outdoor Life Network, which has done a bang up job with NHL coverage this year, won’t be broadcasting reports until March 18, well after the last team has reached Nome. What kind of crap is that? We have the technology to provide wall-to-wall, 24 hour coverage. What a bunch of moose dung.
