Finland 2, Sweden 3
Criticize Swedish coach Bengt Ake Gustafsson for his head games if you want, but there’s no arguing the way his team played in the gold medal round. The Swedes fell behind 1-0 in the first period but slowly took control through the final 40 minutes to win the gold. Goalie Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers put on an amazing clinic in the third period, stopping 10 shots from Finland on his way to a total of 25 for the game. Henrik Zetterberg and Niklas Kronwall, both of the Detroit Red Wings, scored on power plays in the second to put Sweden on top, then teammate Nicklas Lidstrom added the game winner just 10 seconds into the final period when both teams had a player in the penalty box. The only downside to this game is that there’s not a lot of snark you can muster when two great teams play their best, so congrats to both sides for medal-worthy performances.
