Where’s Eruzione When You Need Him?

You can believe all you want, watch Miracle as many times as you like, chant “U-S-A!” as loud as you want, none of it seems to be helping those old, broken down NHL veterans otherwise known as Team USA. The Americans lost their second game of the tournament 2-1 to Sweden, falling to 1-2-1 in Group B standings. I guess it seemed like a good idea at the time to fill out the team’s roster with the most experienced pro players, but maybe USA Hockey should have thought about adding a couple players who could score some goals. Through four games, Team USA has put just nine shots into the net, the same number as struggling Latvia. Holding down the #4 spot with one game remaining against Russia, the US will mostly likely make it into the playoff rounds, but once there they’ll probably have to face either the unbeaten Fins or Sweden. The result there probably won’t make the bean counters at NBC very happy.
