We’re Stoked About Winning Medals

As the 20th Winter Olympiad enters its final week, Norway leads the medal count with 16, including two gold medals and seven each in the silver and bronze category. Germany has 15 (six gold, six silver, and three bronze), followed by the US and Russia with 13 each. The breakdown for the USA is seven gold, four silver, and two bronze; the Russians have won six gold, two silver, and five bronze. Canada has 11 total (2-4-5) and Austria has 10 (4-5-1).

Before you start your “U-S-A!” chant, though, you might want to give a shoutout to the IOC for including such X-Games events as snowboarding and freestyle skiing to the list of Olympic sports. More than half our medals have come in the extreme sports events, with four coming out of the men’s and women’s halfpipe competition alone. There are still some events to go in those categories, including parallel giant slalom and aerial freestyle, so get your flag-waving, “U-S-A!” chanting selves ready for more flag waving and “U-S-A!” chanting.
