Curling: As American As Mom And Apple Pie?

America, are you ready to become a world curling powerhouse? It could happen, with Pete Fenson and his team playing well and ranking near the top of the Olympics standings. Team USA defeated Germany 8-5 in nine ends today to advance their tournament record to 5-2, just one game behind Great Britain with just two matches remaining. It would be quite an upset if the US reached the podium for the first time and broke the stranglehold Canada, Norway, and Switzerland have on the sport. I can see it now: kids will start wearing smart, red turtlenecks and black trousers, we’ll see curling related movies and TV shows, and ESPN will launch a curling segment with “analysts” yelling at one another about draw weight and throwing styles. Great ready, America, a new day is dawning.
