Franco’s Divided Loyalties

Get ready, America, for the story sure to be pounded into us for the next 2 weeks by ESPN, ABC, and everyone else in the Sports Media who likes to beat a dead horse: Who will legendary Seahawk running back Franco Harris side with in Super Bowl 40?

Harris — who started his 13-year career with the Steelers — joins Steve Largent as the most famous Seahawks in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. But he did begin his career in Pittsburgh, technically, and played his college ball at Penn State. So, the Johnny One-Notes in the sports media are no doubt already writing up their “House Divided” stories about this year’s Super Bowl.

I, for one, am not buying it. I mean, once you put on the blue/green/aqua/teal and gray, there’s just no going back. I’m sure Franco will try to keep an open mind and attempt to hide his true feelings, but you just know his heart’s in Seattle with his beloved Seahawks.

But still, prepare yourself for the soaring strings of a Tom Rinaldi SportsCenter piece and the know-it-all jackassery of a Rick Reilly column, because you know they’re coming.

Sweet Jebus, help us.
