If you something about mushing, you may already know Cim Smyth. We don’t, so we didn’t and were surprised to learn that he is the son of veteran musher “Bud” Smyth. We con imagine (completely ignorant of any and all pertinent facts) that as a young boy Cim show an early talent for drawing, an innate sense of style, and flair for color. He may have yearned to travel far from his home in Alaska to the hustle and bustle of Manhattan and to study graphic arts or fashion design. There he could have mingled with the glitterati and become another beautiful face in that tragically hip crowd. Ah, what a life it could have been. Instead, he took up the family business and started mushing dogs, running in his first Iditarod in 1996, finishing in 18th place. He was named Most Inspirational Musher in 2004 and won the Fred Meyer Sportsmanship Award that same year. Cim is single, fights fires, and enjoys hunting, fishing and horses. And we hope he’ll always be a dreamer.
An original oddsnark founding member, but has since fallen by the wayside.
