Fired two weeks ago from the Oakland Raiders, Norv Turner made the big move across the bay yesterday to take his new job as offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers. A two-time flame-out as a head coach, Turner led the Raiders to an impressive nine victories in two years. He also carries with him the scars of seven bad luck years at the helm of the Washington Redskins, during which time that team went 49-59-1 with one playoff berth. His new team, though, finished last season with a 4-12 record and set new franchise marks for fewest touchdowns (17) and passing yards (1,898), so what the hell, Turner can’t do any worse, right?
