Not a Good Day to be a NFL Coach

Today’s turning out to be Black Monday for NFL coaches, with all sorts of pink slips being handed out.

The Dearly Departed

Mike Tice, former Minnesota Vikings head coach: Technically he got canned yesterday, but we’ll include him, and pretend the owner of the Vikes at least was gracious enough not to immediately fire his ass right after his team won their final game.

Dom Capers, former Houston Texans head coach: Hard to go 2-14 and remain employed, especially when you’ve been “rebuilding” for the last four years.

Mike Martz, former St. Louis Rams head coach: His bacteria-filled heart effectively fired him 5 games into the season, but you knew Mikey wasn’t going to be asked back when he was barred by the team from any contact with offensive coordinators or allowed on the sidelines.

Mike Sherman, former Green Bay Packers head coach: Worst Packer season in 15 years won’t do much for your employment status, especially when you’re under more than a wee bit of pressure to finally break through in the playoffs and get a championship for Titletown, instead of yet another playoff loss.

Jim Haslett, former New Orleans Saints head coach: You know you’re not in a good spot when even residual hurricane sympathy can’t save your job.
