Snarks On Ice: The NHL Roundup

Rangers 6, Islanders 2
In the penalty box: defensive meltdowns that give an opponent four goals in seven and a half minutes of the final period.

Flyers 4, Thrashers 3, OT
In the penalty box: Atlanta coach Bob Hartley, for his post-game analysis, “I think we lost our focus in the second period when we could of put the Flyers away.” Or maybe you lost your focus maybe in overtime when Sami Kapanen scored the game winner?

Bruins 4, Panthers 6
In the penalty box: pesky second period when Florida scored two unanswered goals, including the game winner by Chris Gratton.

Mighty Ducks 0, Blue Jackets 1
In the penalty box: the over.

Hurricanes 2, Senators 6
In the penalty box: Pizza Pizza. Ontario’s leading pizza chain has doled out free slices at the last three Ottawa home games after agreeing to a promotion that rewards fans when the Sens score six or more goals.

Capitals 2, Devils 7
In the penalty box: going to a hockey game and getting a baseball score.

Canadiens 4, Lightning 3
In the penalty box: Michinomiya Hirohito, who led Japan into World War II after becoming emperor in 1926. That same year Montreal lost a franchise-record 10 consecutive road games, a mark that would have been matched by the Habs this year if they had not beaten Tampa.

Wild 4, Oilers 2
In the penalty box: weak starts that allow opponents to take a 3-0 in the first half of the game.

Blues 2, Blackhawks 1
In the penalty box: the Pittsburgh Penguins, now officially the worst team in the league.

Kings 5, Avalanche 3
In the penalty box: Colorado Peter Budaj, for getting pulled from the game after surrendering two goals on four shots.

Predators 3, Canucks 4
In the penalty box: six, as in Vancouver avoided a six-game losing streak by snapping Nashville’s six-game winning streak.

Coyotes 5, Sharks 4
In the penalty box: the under.

oddJoe’s hockey picks
I have to admit that I really thought Philly was on the way out after suffering so many injuries, but somehow that team has found a way to keep winning. Now in the midst of an 11-game road trip, their longest in franchise history, the Flyers continue to defy expectations by winning their first three. Carolina is coming off a spanking from Ottawa and will probably play hard, but I think I have to give the edge to Philadephia here. Best line: Philadelphia +110 Bodog.

The Sabres are really on a roll, winning 10 of their last 11 contests and a lucky 13 road games. They are just a few points shy of the Senators in the Northeast Division and can put a little more distance between themselves and the Leafs with a win tonight at Air Canada Centre. Best line: Buffalo +107 at Bowdog.
