oddJoe’s hockey picks
New York’s hockey teams are in a bit of a slump. The Rangers have lost four of their last five and might have to struggle on for a while without Jaromin Jagr, who suffered a neck sprain in Monday’s loss to Ottawa. The Islanders, meanwhile, have lost three of their last five and have surrendered an average of five goals a game over that stretch. The Isles do lead the division series 2-1 with the Rangers, but I think lack of offense overcomes a lack of defense in this one. Best line: NY Rangers +110 at Nine.com.
Division leaders Carolina and Ottawa collide tonight in a huge Eastern Conference match. The Sens appear to be the big favorite here, with a dominant 14-3-0 record at home this year, but the team has struggled of late to string together consecutive wins and one of their home losses can at the hands of the Hurricanes. Carolina is looking to bounce back after having a five-game winning streak snapped in overtime at Tampa on Monday, and I think they just might get the upper hand tonight. Best line: Carolina +210 at Bowmans.
