Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr. have agreed on a rematch of their 1993 fight for the middleweight belt. Jones won that bout in a unanimous decision and went on to claim titles in the super middleweight, light heavyweight, and heavyweight divisions. Hopkins remained a middleweight and ruled the division for a long, long time.
They are both old now, heavier, and coming off a string of losses. When asked why they have now, after 12 years of missed opportunities, signed up for the rematch, neither fighter said, but both should have admitted: “Isn’t it obvious? We’re old and have lost a few in a row to younger, still competent boxers. It was either this or agreeing to do Dancing with the Stars, and that Tatum O’Neill scares the livin shit outta me. She’s batshit crazy.”
