The Provincial Report: Special John Spencer Memorial Edition

Because out here in the provinces, in addition to liking our states, our necks, and our meat to be red, we like our entertainment to be televised. And so, we honor the passing of one of recent television’s greats, John Spencer. Herewith, NFL-playing Spencers and Johns:

Johnnie Morton of the 49ers had 1 catch, but it was a doozie for 28 yards in San Francisco’s tighter-than-it-should’ve been game against the Jaguars. The spirit of Leo McGarry moved Johnnie, I’m sure.

Johnathon Sullivan had 4 tackles, 1 assisted, for the Saints. His teammate John Carney kicked a field goal and an extra point. The 3-pointer moved him past Nick Lowery for 3rd on the NFL’s all time list. Not bad at all.

Of course those two Johns lost to another, Panthers kicker John Kasay, who connected on 2 of 3 field goal attempts and hit 3 extra points.

Media favorite John Lynch managed to get a tackle in the Broncos win over the the Bills in cold cold Buffalo.

John Hall kicked all 5 of Washington’s extra points in the Redskins’s stomping of the Cowgirls.

Somehow John Navarre got into the game for the Cardinals. Michigan alums everywhere gave their appreciation to the ghost of John Spencer for his grace. Sadly, when you’ve got John Navarre quarterbacking for you and you’re in the NFL, you lose the game. And that’s exactly what happened to Arizona … and against the Texans no less. Navarre did complete 14 of 24 with a touchdown and an interception.

Chris Spencer of the Seahawks, Shawntae Spencer of the 49ers, and Tennessee’s Cody Spencer didn’t do enough to merit a mention in the box score, though I’m sure they’re good people nonetheless.
