Snarks On Ice: The NHL Roundup

Canucks 5, Flyers 4
In the penalty box: the number 16, as in injury depleted Philadelphia has had to call up 16 players from the minors this season.

Blue Jackets 1, Hurricanes 2
In the penalty box: Columbus coach Gerard Gallant, for saying in praise of Carolina, “They’re playing as a team, that’s why they’re winning.” Read the other way, might serve as the RIP on your coaching tombstone, Gerard.

Stars 2, Senators 0
In the penalty box: getting shut out at home, especially when you lead the league in goals scored and fewest goals allowed.

Thrashers 3, Devils 2, OT
In the penalty box: sixty minute limit, as in New Jersey has lost three straight in overtime.

Red Wings 2, Panthers 3, OT
In the penalty box: the immutable Laws of Nature.

Blackhawks 3, Predators 5
In the penalty box: not listening to your inner hockey player. As Chicago coach Trent Yawney observed after the game, “We definitely have to be better. It has to come from within.”

Bruins 3, Wild 2
In the penalty box: the ghost of Norm Green. The last time Boston won in the state of Minnesota was in 1990 against the North Stars.

Canadiens 3, Oilers 5
In the penalty box: Montreal’s defense, for letting a 3-1 lead slip away.

Lightning 3, Coyotes 1
In the penalty box: consistency, as in the longest winning streak the ‘Yotes have managed thus far is three games.

oddJoe’s hockey picks
The Duck Pond is proving to be a tough place to win this year. Anaheim is 11-6-2 at home and won four straight in their last five-game home ice stand. Los Angeles has struggled recently to reach the net, scoring three or fewer in their last 10 games. I think the Ducks are worth a chance in this one. Best line: Anaheim -125 at Oasis.

St. Louis comes into Chicago having won their sixth game of the season, a 3-0 shutout over Pittsburgh that cost Ed Olczyk his job. The Blackhawks have lost three of their last five and are coming off a 3-5 loss to Nashville last night. This could be as good a chance as ever for the Blues to win back-to-back contests, which they have only done once this season. Best line: St. Louis +150 at BetCRIS.
