Meet The Mushers: Martin Buser

You can call Martin “The Swiss Rocket.” This four-time Iditarod Trail Race champion holds the current record for fastest winning time of eight days, twenty two hours, forty six minutes and two seconds. The Rocket, er, Martin, was born in Winterthur, Switzerland, and came to Alaska in 1979. He took part in his first Iditarod the next year and has run the race 21 times since then. Die Rakete seems like a bit of an odd one, though. Among his dogs are Bill (named after the former president), 4-Runner and F150, Melchior, Riptide, and Worf (who is nicknamed “the unguided missile”). He lives in Big Lake, Alaska, with his wife, and their two sons, and runs the Happy Trails Kennel. Viel Glueck!
