No Word Yet on Whether or Not Folsom Field to be Painted Gold

Word is that Colorado is prepared to name Boise State’s Dan Hawkins its next head coach. In addition to coaching small, unspectacular, shouldn’t-be-on-a-Division-I-field-even-if-it-is-blue athletes to play crazy-style offenses and win games they shouldn’t, Hawkins is also known for his interest in Eastern philosophy. Well, as known as you can get coaching at a school best known for its blue football field and the fact that Matthew Barney’s father used to work there. USA Today has called him “a scruffy-haired, boyish-looking philosopher who quotes Gandhi and Chogyam Trungpa, a Buddhist author”. Hell, he’s noteworthy for having read a book not written by Bear Bryant or Tom Osborne.

In fact, when asked why he’d be interested in the CU job after having turned down other opportunities to leave Boise in the past Hawkins was reported to say, “Life’s a big mystery. Sometimes you have to be like Crazy Horse and listen to the vibrations.”

Good for Colorado, I say. Surely someone who quotes Gandhi and Chogyam Trungpa and refers to Crazy Horse’s vibration-listening isn’t going to make excuses for his players when they rape his back-up kicker. Right? Sounds like a step in the right direction.
