Snarks On Ice: The NHL Roundup

Wild 4, Islanders 3
In the penalty box: forward Arron Asham of New York, who was whistled for three penalties in three minutes at the end of the second period. He got two minutes for slashing, came out of the box and immediately drew an unsportsmanlike conduct call for something he said to a linesman, came out of the box again and broke his stick earning another two minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct and a 10 minutes for misconduct. Minnesota capitalized on the meltdown and scored two power play goals to take the lead for good.

Canucks 3, Rangers 2
In the penalty box: Vancouver’s Todd Bertuzzi, for instigating a fight, fighting, and misconduct, a total of 17 minutes in the box.

Blackhawks 3, Hurricanes 5
In the penalty box: giving 110%, as in Chicago is the only team in the NHL without a shorthanded goal.

Red Wings 6, Thrashers 7
In the penalty box: the under.

Predators 3, Panthers 7
In the penalty box: the entire Nashville team, not only for losing to Florida but for giving up seven unanswered goals during a span of 37 minutes.

Flyers 3, Blue Jackets 1
In the penalty box: the value of trading for Sergei Fedorov. Columbus was 5-13 before acquiring the veteran All-Star; they are 4-8 with him on their roster.

Coyotes 2, Canadiens 5
In the penalty box: having your coach and co-owner also be general manager of Team Canada. With Gretzky ostensibly scouting for talent for his Olympic team, every Canadian the ‘Yotes face is going to play above his ability. Case in point, Montreal goalie Jose Theodore, who had 27 saves.

Oilers 1, Devils 2, SO
In the penalty box: the over.

Penguins 0, Blues 3
In the penalty box: hope, for abandoning the Pittsburgh franchise altogether.

oddJoe’s hockey picks
Dallas at Buffalo should be a pretty good game to watch tonight. The Stars are riding a five-game winning streak while the Sabres have won four of their last five and are 11-1-1 in their last 13 starts. Although now that I’ve said that I realize that every other time I’ve thought a match-up between two matched teams would result in an exciting game, it turns into a blowout. Actually, I think Buffalo’s defense will be hard pressed to contain the Stars, so I’d take the over to be sure. Best line: Dallas -110, Over 6 +110 at 5 Dimes.

The Tampa Bay Lightning bring a six-game winning streak into the Duck Pond tonight to face an Anaheim team that lost two of three on a swing through the Eastern Conference. If this game were being played in Tampa, I’d definitely give the edge to the Bolts, but here I think the Ducks might again prove to be mighty. Best line: Anaheim +105 at BetCRIS.
