For the first time, votes in the final USA Today coaches’ poll were revealed today, so that all us sports junkies can see exactly how certain coaches voted. The push to reveal the final votes gained steam last year when Texas made a mad dash to the finish line, leapfrogging over Cal for the last BCS berth.
All in all, no real shockers. I would say that Mack Brown did the classy thing, voting USC ahead of his own Longhorns, but he’d have to have approximately the IQ of a sack of hammers to do anything other than that, knowing the vote would be revealed.
It is funny, though, that Mack’s own big brother (UAB coach Watson Brown) voted the same way, putting USC ahead of the Longhorns. Hook a brother up, Holmes.
Other votes that weren’t as, umm, logical:
SMU coach Phil Bennett had Oregon 15th, proving once and for all that Mustangs really, really hate Ducks.
The ol’ ball coach Spurrier believed his Gamecocks clocked in at 21st, three spots ahead of the Clemson Tigers. which are, indeed, the same Clemson Tigers that beat the Gamecocks to close out the regular season.
