Key To Bears’ Success: Kyle Orton, Ubermensch

Somebody did him some bookwormin’ when he was at Purdue. I was watching Inside the NFL the other day, and during one of the highlight segments they cut to Bears QB Kyle Orton sitting on the bench. There was a mike in the vicinity, and I clearly heard him explaining to a teammate, “I’m a nihilist.”

I don’t have a joke for that, it’s just one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard a football player say during a game. It’s especially entertaining without any context, because you get to imagine the other end of the conversation. (I didn’t notice who he was talking to, but for comedy’s sake let’s imagine defensive tackle Tank Johnson):

Tank: Damn, Kyle, why the hell’d you overthrow that ball?
Kyle: I’m a nihilist.
Tank: Where the hell’d Jeff Blake go…
