Disgusted with the state of the heavyweight division? Tired of the stream of hopeless hopefuls, the alphabet soup of champions, the constant game of dodging-for-dollars? Well, fight fans, keep hope alive.
With the retirement of Vitali Klitschko (Brittle-i Bitchko, if you prefer), the current crop of heavyweight “champions” are already unified in one way: Rahman (WBC), Byrd (IBF), Ruiz (WBA), and Brewster (WBO) all fall under the proud banner of Don King Productions.
Can you believe our luck? Don King might be best known as a promoter, but really he’s a fight fan first. Sure, he makes lots of money setting up fights, but making money isn’t nearly as important to him as insuring great match-ups for fans and upholding the integrity of the sport.
With Don completely controlling the show, I’m sure we’ll see a unification tournament faster than you can say Lennox Lewis. Because Don King loves boxing. And boxing fans. Not money.
Only in America!
